Lash extensions make getting ready in the morning a breeze! Many describe having lashes as “confidently beautiful.” The open-eye effect enhances your natural features and even makes the color of your eyes more dramatic and pop! Kiss your mascara goodbye. No more smudges or smeared makeup.
WHAT ARE LASH EXTENSIONS, AND WHO ARE THEY FOR
Lash extensions are synthetic fibers that are applied to your natural lashes to make them appear longer, thicker, and darker.
Classic lashes are the perfect way to enhance natural lashes. The classic technique applies one individual lash to one natural lash to create a set of longer and thicker lashes. These lashes will always look more natural as they are designed to mimic how your natural lashes look—the fullness that can be achieved depends on how many natural lashes you have. Classic lashes enhance your natural lashes.
Lash extensions are for anybody, especially those with natural lashes in good health and do not have sensitivities or allergies.

WHEN A FILL IS A FILL AND WHEN IS A FULL SET IS NEEDED
Natural lash shedding is a normal part of the lash cycle. There are three stages within this cycle. The Anagen stage is when a new hair is produced. The Catagen phase is a transition stage. The hair detaches itself from the dermal papilla, the shorted part of the hair growth cycle. Lastly, the Telogen phase is the final or resting stage of hair growth. Hair will sit here until another anagen hair pushes it out or falls out on its own. With this information, is getting a fill every 2-3 weeks recommended? If your lashes are 40% less full or have passed 3 weeks, it is necessary for a full set.
CLASSIC VS. HYBRID
Classic Lashes are the O.G. of the lash industry. The first technique to be introduced into the lash world. When doing this service, the lash artist attaches one lash extension to each individual natural lash. The most commonly used Classic diameter is .15mm. Remembering your guest’s natural lash health during consultations is important. The thinner the natural lash, the lighter the extension you should use. In this case, you would use a .10mm or .12mm for guests with fine and brittle natural lashes. For photoshoots or special occasions, we recommend .18mm or .20mm classic diameters as they pick up beautifully on camera, offering a darker lash line. Classic lashes have two different base shapes to utilize in your Hybrid sets: a round base and a flat base. Flat base classic lashes are a great option to add to that ‘eyeliner’ look and also offer great retention.
Round bases give a more lived-in look. In a Hybrid set, Classic lashes are used to maintain a natural look while adding a touch of definition and texture. Hybrid lash extensions are incredibly versatile! They offer a customized look that provides the natural, lived appearance of Classic lashes and the fullness of volume lashes. Your lash artist can create a natural everyday look or a more dramatic, noticeable set, both offering great retention and feel for all different lash health. Hybrid sets are perfect for those who want:
– A subtle yet full look
– More density but lower price than volume
– A textured lash look
Remember, Hybrid sets will naturally grow out to look more textured than when you placed them due to unpredictable lash shed. Hybrid sets are a great opportunity to try some fluff and add fullness.
Dimensional lashes combine the softness of fans with the straight boldness of classic lashes. Hybrid lashes are a blend of classic and volume, with a customizable 50% volume and 50% classic ratio, achieving a naturally gorgeous look with added fullness and volume.
WILL LASH EXTENSIONS DAMAGE MY NATURAL LASHES
As long as proper techniques are used during application, a guest’s natural lashes should continue to follow their natural growth cycle. To ensure this is the case, Borboleta-trained artists follow a specific protocol, including applying only the appropriate weight to lashes, using minimal adhesive, and applying one lash or fan to each natural lash so that it can shed easily
and naturally when it grows out.
WHAT TO EXPECT WITH YOUR SERVICE AT KLS AESTHETICS
– If you usually wear contacts, it’s best to remove them before your appointment (we also have trays to hold your contacts if needed). If you wear lash strips, it’s important to stop wearing them at least 48 hours before your appointment due to the build-up of the lash glue on the lash line.
– Come in with makeup-free eyelashes. Try to avoid stimulants such as excessive amounts of caffeine, as this causes the eyes to flutter, which will affect the application process.
– When you arrive at your appointment, you must come with makeup-free eyes. You and your provider will have a quick consultation about your desired look and shape for your lash extensions.
– Your provider will provide a lash bath to ensure all the lashes are fully clean and clear of any potential dirt and debris. After this, we will ensure the bottom lash safety by placing sensitive medical tape down and adjusting to the eye shape as needed.
– Each lash set varies, but plan on laying down for about two and a half hours for a full set hybrid and volume set and about two hours for a classic full set. Once the tape is removed, there is always the possibility of some lashes adhering to the bottom lashes, which will be removed before the end of the service to ensure a beautiful full-lash style!

FUN HISTORICAL FACTS ABOUT LASH EXTENSIONS
In 1916, while making his film Intolerance, D. W. Griffith noticed his actress Seen Owen was missing something. Griffith wanted her eyes to be twice as large and “supernatural.” He then spoke to his wigmaker to create false lashes. They were made of human hair and fixed to her eyelashes by spirit gum. One day, Owen showed up with her eyes swollen nearly shut, her co- star Lillian-Gish wrote in her memoir.
It was reported in 1882 that “Parisians have found out how to make false eyelashes by having hair sewn into the eyelids, advertising that this would help lengthen the lashes by using their hair from their head and sew it into their eyelid”
In 1947, the Aylott brothers, British makeup artists in the film industry, formed a company called Eyelure. This was one of the first known companies to manufacture false lashes. Their lashes were used in iconic films like Cleopatra and on famous fashion models, making striking lashes all the rage! By 1968, false eyelashes were a booming business.
LASH EXTENSION MYTHS
“You can’t get your lashes wet.”
Guests should cleanse their lash extensions daily! Showers, sweating, and swimming will not affect lash extension retention as long as lashes are porperly cleansed shorly after such activities. What is important is the frequency and quality of products used for daily lash care. Borboleta has a collection of skincare-infused lash care products to ensure that lash extensions stay clean and beautiful and retain great.
“Lash extensions are uncomfortable.”
If your lashes feel uncomfortable or bother you, they probably haven’t been applied correctly. During your appointment, you may feel slightly burning from the adhesive fumes, but this should stop quickly afterward. However, if it does cause a bit of stinging, we have tools that can help disperse the fumes to stop the stinging sensation. Although most people find eyelash extension treatments relaxing, many clients actually fall asleep during them!
“You can’t wear makeup with lash extensions”
You can wear makeup when you have eyelash extensions, but the makeup products must be oil- free! We recommend avoiding mascara. Another tip would be not to wear certain products on the lower lash line because when we blink, the product can transfer to the top lash line right where there is extension adhesive. Some professional brands offer eyelash extension-safe makeup products, which we recommend over alternative options. Overall, it is best to practice avoiding certain products around the eye area to extend the longevity of your
“You can’t work out with lash extensions.”
You can definitely work out with your extensions on. We highly recommend waiting eight hours after you get your fill or full set. This allows the eyelash adhesive to fully cure your natural lash without being impacted by a high-humidity atmosphere, such as a steam room or sauna. You also want to avoid sweat lingering on the extensions, so cleaning your lashes immediately after a heavy workout is best. Following proper aftercare is best and will extend the retention of your eyelash extensions.
“Removing lash extensions is painful.”
When done by a professional—absolutely not. We remove the lash extensions using a proper remover, not by pulling the lashes out or picking them off. A professional needs to use a solution designed specifically to remove eyelash extensions. These products are applied to the base of the extension, where the glue is applied, to dissolve the glue so that the extensions gently wipe off the natural lashes with no damage or pain.
