You’ve Heard Of Kybella®. Meet PCDC!
Kybella® (the brand name for deoxycholic acid) is a popular under-chin treatment that breaks down fat cells. PCDC contains the same active ingredient as Kybella® (DC) but also includes phosphatidylcholine (PC). This addition can help reduce pain and, most importantly, protects the neighboring cells from corrosion caused by DC alone.
How It Works
Like Kybella®, PCDC targets and destroys fat cells where it’s injected. Once these cells are dead, they can’t come back! The PC component in PCDC helps the body digest and drain the destroyed fat cells. The results take effect over time, and the outcome is a smoother submental area and a face no longer defined by stubborn fat pockets. Keep in mind, however, the remaining fat cells can get bigger or smaller as you gain or lose weight.
PCDC Treatment
PCDC treatment is a series of injections given over multiple sessions that take place approximately four to six weeks apart. During your office visit, your under-chin area will be injected multiple times with a tiny needle containing the PCDC compound. You can expect to be in the office for about 20 minutes and can typically resume normal activities quickly.
Side Effects
Side effects are usually minimal and may include slight swelling at the injection site. You may also experience redness, tenderness, itching, and bruising, which typically resolve within two weeks. Keep in mind, however, that you may be tender and swollen for up to 14 days after treatment.
In rare cases, people undergoing PCDC treatments may experience paralysis, swollen lymph nodes, skin ulceration, infection, pigmentation, nodules, and uneven results.
Precautions And Exclusions
While side effects are minimal, there are a few things you should know before you schedule a PCDC consultation. First, you can’t massage or put pressure on the area for 24 hours. And like all invasive treatments, there is a risk of infection, especially if you don’t follow your pre & post-visit care instructions.
Like Kybella®, PCDC treatments may not be for everyone. Talk to your treatment provider about your overall health during your consultation. You’ll need to avoid PCDC treatments if you are pregnant or breast-feeding, have an active infection under your chin, have insulin-dependent diabetes, are experiencing swollen glands in your neck area, or have certain medical conditions, including issues with speaking or swallowing, hemophilia hormone/thyroid disorder, cancer, liver disease, or kidney disease. Treatment is also not available for those currently undergoing chemotherapy or are under 18 years of age.
