Here at KLS, we are excited to offer an easy, quick treatment for Hyperhidrosis! If you are dealing with excessive underarm sweating, come see our providers. Many struggle with sweating through shirts and the embarrassment of this issue. Excessive sweating can also cause stains that are hard to remove from your shirts.
WHAT IS HYPERHIDROSIS
Hyperhidrosis is a medical condition that causes excessive sweating, even when the body doesn’t need to cool down. There are two types of Hyperhidrosis. The first is primary Hyperhidrosis, which is usually inherited and begins in childhood, worsening with puberty. Secondary Hyperhidrosis is when sweating is caused by another condition or behavior, such as a neurologic syndrome, diabetes, hormonal changes, or a side effect of certain medications.
WHAT HELPS WITH HYPERHIDROSIS, AND WHO IS IT FOR
There are a few treatments available to clients who suffer from excessive sweating. The first is the injection of a neuromodulator such as Botox, Xeomin, or Daxxify. This option is available for clients 18 years of age or older. Hyperhidrosis can also be treated with lasers, oral medications, and surgical interventions.
- How it works; Botox is injected just beneath the skin in the armpit region, preventing the sweat glands from producing too much sweat.
- Effectiveness; Botox is most effective for focal Hyperhidrosis, which affects a specific area of the body and can reduce the amount of sweat produced by up to 85%
- Results: Patients typically see results within 7 days and full results after two weeks.
WILL THIS HELP WITH ODOR
Yes! Sweat is odorless but can smell when it mixes with bacteria on your skin. The bacteria break down the proteins and oils in sweat, releasing byproducts that cause body odor. Decreasing or eliminating the sweat in your underarms will reduce or eliminate the odor.
HOW MANY UNITS SHOULD I EXPECT TO BUDGET FOR
The typical amount of Botox is 50 units per underarm, so 100 units in total. Men may require more than women due to physiological and hormonal differences. At KLS, Botox/ Xeomin/ Daxxify are our chosen neurotoxins. They range from 12-16 dollars/ unit. Talk with us about how to reduce that price by purchasing a “bank” of toxins. We offer payment plans with Cherry to help you achieve your goals faster.
HOW LONG WILL TOX IN THE UNDERARM AREA LAST
The action of the tox in the underarms usually lasts about 4-6 months on average.
HOW OFTEN SHOULD I COME BACK FOR TREATMENT
When you notice your sweating to be bothersome again, it is time to repeat the treatment.
WHAT TO EXPECT WITH YOUR SERVICE AT KLS AESTHETICS IN RENTON, WASHINGTON
At KLS, your provider will assess you and your goals and review your medical history and lifestyle. If your provider determines that your Hyperhidrosis would be decreased or eliminated by the use of tox, you would then be sanitized and prepped in your underarm area. Your provider will make some markings on your skin with a washable sanitary marker or pencil. You will feel little pinches with the insertion of the needle as the neurotoxin is instilled under the skin. Depending on your anatomy, you will receive 10-15 injections per underarm. You will be able to return to work immediately.
DOES IT HURT
The needles used for this service are tiny, so a slight pinch is felt with each injection. There are a few options for distraction during the treatment while your provider is performing the service. Applying ice prior to injection will help minimize any discomfort.
CONTRAINDICATIONS FOR TREATMENT
You will not be able to receive this treatment if you are pregnant or breastfeeding. Other contraindications for receiving Hyperhidrosis tox would be a severe bleeding disorder, an infection at the site or systemically, a neuromuscular disorder such as MS or Lou Gehrig’s Disease, or an allergy to any of the ingredients in the neurotoxin.
TREATMENT INSTRUCTIONS
Pre-treatment instructions: Stop any NSAID, oily vitamins, or blood thinners (with approval from your prescribing Dr.) 2-3 days before your treatment. Please shave 3 days before your treatment. The neurotoxin is injected near each hair follicle as the sweat gland is adjacent. It is suitable for the provider to see where your hair is growing from, but if it is too long, this could impair the appropriate place to inject. It is recommended to shave 3 days prior to your appointment.
Post-treatment instructions: No exercising for 24 hours, not washing or showering the area for 12 hours, not shaving for 2 days, and avoiding perfumes, lotions, and deodorants in this area for 24 hours. Do not massage or rub the area for 24 hours.
Possible risks and side effects of underarm Botox include possible bruising, bleeding, and/or infection at the injection site. Mild pain, which should resolve within a few hours. Redness, itching, or mild swelling may occur temporarily.
