KLS Aesthetics is excited to introduce a new treatment for sexual wellness and incontinence. Why is sexual wellness essential? It may be something people don’t want to discuss, but that doesn’t mean it’s unimportant. Many people suffer from various conditions affecting their sexual well-being that can now be improved with platelet-rich plasma (PRP).
Women going through menopause may experience changes that affect their sexual enjoyment and pleasure, as well as urinary incontinence. Pregnancy can change a woman’s urinary control abilities which can lead to leakage or stress incontinence. Men, as they age, may begin to suffer from mild to moderate erectile dysfunction and loss of sensation, as well as loss of girth, which may affect their partner’s enjoyment.
PRP can improve these conditions. But sexual wellness with PRP is not only for aging adults. Anyone who suffers from these symptoms may benefit.
PRP
Platelet-rich plasma (PRP) is rich in your body’s growth factors. These growth factors stimulate fibroblasts in the area of injection, which promote the growth of new collagen, blood vessels, and nerve endings, regenerating the tissue they are injected into. PRP has been utilized in orthopedic medicine for some time. It can regenerate cartilage, heal meniscus tears, and add lubrication to joints.
WHAT DOES PRP TREAT
When PRP is injected for sexual wellness, women can enjoy increased sensitivity, improved orgasms, increased libido, and increased lubrication. It also can improve stress urinary incontinence (bladder leakage with coughing or sneezing). During and following pregnancy, as many as 4 in 10 women experience urinary incontinence, or the involuntary loss of urine. Pregnancy and giving birth are extremely tough on the body and can change a woman’s urinary control abilities. The weight of the expanding uterus and the mechanisms of giving birth can weaken the strength of a woman’s pelvic floor muscles and cause urine to leak. There are several types of urinary incontinence, but most postpartum women experience stress incontinence. Laughing, coughing, sneezing, jumping and other activities can put extra pressure on the bladder sphincter, the muscular valve at the bottom of the bladder that controls urine flow. This pressure can lead to urine leakage, or stress incontinence, during those activities. Truthfully, incontinence is not only very common but also responds to several noninvasive treatment options such as PRP that can greatly improve or eliminate symptoms. Men can experience improvement in erectile dysfunction and girth.
For Women
The procedure begins with numbing cream (topical lidocaine) applied to the treatment area, such as the clitoris, labia, and roof of the vagina. Numbing takes approximately 30 minutes. While you are numbing, a blood draw is performed. One blood tube is placed in a centrifuge, separating the red blood cells from the platelet-rich plasma. The PRP is then harvested for injection. There may be mild discomfort or pressure, but the procedure is usually well tolerated.
For Men
The procedure also begins with numbing cream applied to the treatment area to include the entire shaft and head of the penis. Numbing will take approximately 30 minutes, and a blood draw is performed while you are numbing. For men – two tubes of blood are placed in a centrifuge to separate the red blood cells from the PRP. The PRP is then harvested for injection. Amazingly, this is very tolerable with no discomfort. Men are then instructed to use a vacuum pump, which will be applied and left in place for 10 minutes post-procedure. You will be sent home with the vacuum device to be used for 10 minutes, twice daily, for six weeks.
AFTER THE PROCEDURE
Women may notice light spotting immediately after the procedure, which will likely resolve within 24 hours. A panty liner will be provided for your comfort. Most women may notice a heightened vaginal sensation due to the injections around the clitoris. Wear comfortable, loose-fitting clothing for 24-48 hours. Incontinence may improve in the first 3-7 days. After three weeks, new tissue will begin to develop and continue to develop up to nine weeks post-procedure. At the three-month mark, the treatment will reach its peak development.
Men may notice bruising over the injection points, which will resolve within 3-7 days. It is essential to continue using the vacuum pump provided to help circulate the PRP that has been injected. Ice packs can be used to help with bruising and any discomfort. You may notice an improvement in your erection firmness at the three-month mark as the treatment reaches its peak development.

WILL I NEED ANOTHER TREATMENT
It is recommended to reevaluate your results 12 weeks after your initial treatment. Improvements in sexual function vary from person to person and depend upon the reason for the dysfunction. Studies show that between 75-95% of women enjoy improvements in their sexual functioning soon after their first treatment. If you feel the results are less than expected, don’t hesitate to contact our office to schedule a follow-up appointment.
It is recommended to have the treatment every 12-18 months or when your symptoms begin to return. Most women will seek a second treatment when their urinary incontinence symptoms return, and for men, changes in their erection.
